Question about pre-defined user profile dropdowns

Hello.

We need to predefine a dropdown list of company names for the users to select from.  I've followed the instructions similar to the ones posted to predefine a dropdown list of U.S. state acronyms.  That seems to work with a couple of caveats.

I've found that you can use spaces in the dropdown options, but can't use commas.  I've tried to add a \ before the comma in the hopes that it would escape it, but that doesn't work.  I don't believe this is a huge issue, but if anyone has any ideas, I'd be happy to try them out!

The other item that appears to be a bit more of an issue is that when you view your profile, you don't see what has been selected in the dropdown until you click "edit".  Has anyone else seen this?  Have I missed something?

Yes, you are correct. Currently there is no way to escape the comma character to include it in the company name. We will look into providing this into a future version.

Regarding the missing selected value of a drop-down list. The value on the view page will remain empty until the profile value has been saved. After it is saved a text representation of the selection will be displayed in the view page. I just test this with the sample state drop-down property using the latest bits. Please be sure you click the 'Save Profile' link and not the close button after updating this value.

If you still have issue send your contact info to SoftwareSupport@sharepointsolutions.com and we can setup some time too look at your server.

Right! My bad.  That "Save profile" button gets me every time.  I should know better by now.

Thanks for such a quick response!

All that worked great- but I have one more quick question. Is there anyway possible to have a dropdown field pull from a list inside of SharePoint?  This way, we can update the list (and use for other meta at the same time) as needed without having to keep updating the web.config.

No, this operation is not supported at the current time. To allow this type of behavior you would have to develop a custom registration page and tell ExCM where the new page is located at from the Delegation Settings page. If you have limited development resources and would like us to provide you with a quote please send an e-mail to softwaresupport@sharepointsolutions.com and we will create that for you.

Thanks! That's what I needed to know.

I'll look into the custom registration page and hope for the best.

    :)
