I think that I have successfully installed the extranet software correctly, however I am having issues with testing this theory. We would like to set up a system that only allows for inviting users. So to test, I invite from manage users. This goes fine and all seems ok, but the user never recieves the e-mail. I know that SharePoint e-mail is working properly as it is able to send e-mail to active directory users that I add. Am I missing something?
E-Mail Invite Never Arrives?

Matthew McBride I've seen this happen 4 or 5 times in the past. In every case an internal span filter was blocking the external mail messages. I would begin by sending an invitation to an internal users (maybe yourself) to see if you receive the invitation. In addition, you will want to check your client spam filter to ensure it is not catching the request.
You can verify the e-mail messages in a couple of different ways. First, if you are using SMTP locally you can add an alias for the domain name of the e-mail address for the registering user. This will drop the e-mail message in the Drop folder of your mail root. A second option would be to send a test message using telnet from your SharePoint box to ensure the message reaches the recipient.

Matthew McBride I had the same problem and and this is what I did.
If you are using Exchange 2007 here is what you have to do in order to have SharePoint2007 and Exchange 2007 live together.

The best way to test the application is using telnet as Jeremy suggested.
Here is how you will test your SharePoint server to see if your mail server is able to accept email from SharePoint.
