Upgrading from EXCM 2007 to EXCM 2010

The ExCMExport.exe tool (found in the 'C:\Program Files\SharePoint Solutions\Extranet Collaboration Manager 2010\Upgrade\' directory) can be used to migrate ExCM 2007 settings to ExCM 2010. It does not include your user database. The user database can simply be migrated using by editing the "connectionString" section of you central admin, Security Token Service and content site web.config files.

In general, here are the steps to upgrade from MOSS 2007 with EXCM 2007 to a SharePoint 2010 FBA site with ExCM 2010:

1. Export your ExCM 2007 settings using the ExCMExport.exe tool (run on each Site Collection)

2. Clean up ExCM 2007 resources (run on each Site Collection)

3. Upgrade SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010 (See Microsoft's documentation)

4. Connect your user database to your Central Admin, Security Token Service and content site. There isn't a lot of documentation provided by Microsoft regarding this procedure, with this being the best:

You can also use the ExCM help documentation found below. To complete this item execute steps 4,5,6,7 in the 'Configuring a claims authentication site with forms authentication' article below...

5. Finally, migrate your 2007 forms accounts to 2010 claims accounts using forms authentication. There does appears to be an issue with Microsoft's tool and extranet roles. It has been our experience that you will have to re-add any role access granted in 2007.

6. Install ExCM 2010 and import your ExCM 2007 settings.

Note, ExCM 2010 has a lot of new settings that are not included in the import utility. If you don't have a lot of site collections it may be easier to reconfigure your Extranet Settings by hand.

Please make sure you make backup copies of your environment at the critical steps in the upgrade (numbers 3 and 5).
